At the beginning of March, my husband and I learned my mother-in-law’s dementia had taken a sharp turn, and in-home care was no longer possible. While she was hospitalized, we quickly had to arrange for a memory care home. Thankfully, we had anticipated this moment and had identified a few options years earlier. Gratefully, she transitioned into a lovely women’s memory care home.
Next, we flew to Jacksonville, Florida, to take care of her home and affairs. We had just five days to get everything in order.
Her financial planner referred us to a wonderful realtor, and it was a relief to be on the receiving end of an experienced professional. She provided clear information to help us compare selling versus renting the home and connected us with other trusted professionals including — a landscaper, estate sale company, property manager, and handyman.
Within a few days we were able to interview everyone and put a team in place to help execute the plan. That support freed us up to focus on what mattered most: spending time with mom and helping her transition into her new home.
Experiencing this process from the other side reminded me how important trusted guidance is during major life transitions — and how often real estate becomes part of those moments.
If you’re considering selling, buying, or simply wondering what your home might be worth in today’s market, I’m always happy to be a resource. And if life brings a transition — whether it’s downsizing, relocating, or helping a family member — I would be honored to guide you through the process.
